• The timely deadline for the February Texas Bar Examination is August 30 before the exam. The absolute deadline (accompanied by a late fee) for the February bar exam is October 30 of the year preceding the exam.
• The timely deadline for the July Texas Bar Examination is January 30 before the exam. The absolute deadline (accompanied by a late fee) for the July bar is March 30 before the exam.

We will send a list of those students who have completed the required law study directly to the Board of Law Examiners. You do not need to contact us unless the Board notifies you that they have not received your certification.

DECLARATION OF INTENTION TO STUDY LAW

As a prerequisite to the Texas Bar Exam, students are required to file a Declaration of Intention to Study Law with the State Board of Bar Examiners in Austin. This filing must be done by September 15 for summer entrants and October 1 for fall entrants. Students cannot take the bar exam if they have not filed their declaration at least 270 days prior to the bar exam date. A copy of your law school application must be included with the Intent to Study Law Declaration.

Students who transfer to another law school after filing their Declaration form must notify the Board of Bar Examiners that they have changed schools within 30 days after they transfer.
